Hug
Poem: Hug
I wish I was as snug as a bug but
it’s you I want to see.
It’s you I want to hug.
Forget the rug!
A tea we could have together in either a cup or a mug
No to the sugar but sweetness in a kiss or two
Let’s see what else we could wish for
Let’s see what we could do
Review: Hug
What a delightful opening line where the poet wants to be warm and cosy referencing the well-known English saying, ‘As snug as a bug in a rug’
But the poet chooses to dismiss the rug altogether and prioritises their desire to be in the company of this other person and to give them a hug and to drink tea with them.
I can’t help but to smile warmly at this.
Drinking tea is viewed worldwide as a social ritual where people slow down to connect and talk all sorts with others. A soothing and powerful beverage it sure is.
The poet doesn’t suggest any sugar but sweetness would be in a kiss or two. How intriguing? Who could this other person be I wonder?
A suggestion of another wish could be asked for here and an action of some kind too. Nice! There’s even more intrigue. My guessing is that the pair, be it a friendship or family members are to meet after quite a long period of time being absent in each other’s lives. There would be a lot to catch up with. Making a wish, in my optimistic mind, seems to have been granted or will be very soon. Hooray! Patience indeed is a virtue and all that! So there is the incentive now to wish for more and to make it happen!
I’ve enjoyed the rhyming of ‘Snug, Bug, Rug and Mug’
And ‘a kiss or two’
with ‘what we could do’
An optimistic and fun poem of love, hope and connection. I love it!
I’m sure many could relate to it.
