Walk

Poem: Walk

Walk on with hope in your heart

on a tight rope

on air

on the plank

on hot coals

The Moon awaits me

I walk alone

Review: Walk

At the start of the poem I’m thinking, ‘I know where this is going’ I know of it. It’s giving a nod to what could be seen as an almost borderline plagiarist sign to a well-known song and English football club anthem of unity and solidarity. Before I get too ‘cosy’ , wrong and smug in my misjudgement I’m taken abruptly and sharply to the actual walking of the footsteps within the poem. Precarious in nature with every footstep: A tightrope, the air, a plank and hot coals!

All of the poet’s doing, would it be?

Is that not all a bit too much? Is this ‘journey’ expected to take place all in one day?

This does not sound like a regular ‘well being’ walk around the block that’s recommended by health professionals or indeed your grandma. This sounds like it’s something that the poet has experienced, and it sounds… quite terrifying!

But the poet sounds strong because it appears that they are reflecting on their life story to date and wants to send a message of still having hope and has ambitions for reaching as high as the moon and walking on it.

It could be a metaphorical trip … or at least I hope it is.

Having hope is the supportive force throughout the poem. It’s what has given the poet strength.

Economic. Mad, fun with a message of encouragement. I like that much.
