Three desires, no genie
Poem: Three desires, no genie
Peace
Love and harmony
That is what I ask for
Why should I be careful when wishing for it?
Is it risky?
Review: Three desires, no genie
Chances are that the person making the wishes will not stop at three and reveal only the ones that are acceptable to mention and to be heard; the good stuff that would benefit all, yes. (Are they expecting an audience?) Well done poet, pat on back you. Hoorah rah rah. Edit those deepest desires of yours, keep them to yourself, eh? But what twisted, weirdo, deranged, lunatic would not want world peace but the complete opposite of it?
I’ll stop there as there have been, and currently there are a few.
Here are my three observations in a realistic response to this:
‘Naive, naive, naive…Naive, naive, naive’
See, not even I could stop at three. I had ‘to do one better’ and double it!
How obnoxious an attitude. The knowing of when to stop and to have some humility perhaps could benefit the individual? It could rub off on others and the attitude could create a positive culture and form a wholesome society leading to understanding and perhaps world peace? Hmm? Do I really believe that or is it my turn to be naive, naive, naive? (Another story for another time.)
Spending too much time wishing for things and not enough time on working towards making those wishes becoming a reality, if one really and truly wants it, is a waste of time is it not? Living for a dream? Are ‘Mother nature’ and ‘Father time’ conspiring against us all, holding hands and skipping in unison at this? Would they be pointing and laughing, holding aloft placards of “I told you so” “Youth is for the young” “haa haa haa”
I’ll stop there! How cruel a partnership? Not very encouraging nor supportive.
That is why the well-known idiom to ‘be careful what you wish for’ exists as it suggests that you my not really want ‘it’ if you knew what the whole picture of ‘it’ and what’s involved? Think before you say it. You may think you like the idea but what about all of the messy stuff that comes along with it?
With there not being a genie involved, are the desires more likely to be exposed to corruption? Something or someone would see the need (usually a greedy one) to jump in to grant them with an interminable monthly subscription attached. If it were me I would…
Wish one: I think I’d wish for a regular old fashioned genie to help me out.
Wish two: For Mother Nature and Father Time to be out of the picture indefinitely.
Wish three: World Peace (without it, we’re all stuck/and or doomed)
