That Cafe, I just can’t handle it

I laughed inside as it would be rude to laugh out loud and point. I was misheard. I had indeed asked for a large latte and those ‘large’ mugs that I saw around me were only a fraction bigger than the small ones but handles did feature, I wasn’t imagining it. Oh, what a lesson to have learned for the next time I visit here I thought(!) Yes, I’m in a hurry to think that far ahead. I’m saying that with a sense of eagerness of wanting to return. Wouldn’t you? A reassuring sign ‘handles are here!’ Can one handle it? Should that be one of the first things I’m met with on a morning? Before I get too carried away with this subject (I haven’t mentioned the coffee yet) it is good to have a balanced view. Here goes; I am offended by mugs I’ve seen in other coffee establishments offering two handles, no not as separate loose things to stick on to cups but visible handles, one on each side of the cup, trophy- esque, to assist the sipper with the mighty heft (Another story for another time, if I can be bothered to muster a line or two of words to make any comment at all that is? Would it just be easier say, awful coffee, awful mugs. Sickeningly ubiquitous in nature. I’m leaving it at that. Back to this Coffee/bakery/patisserie establishment that I have visited this week. Yes, I was in the mood for a coffee and I was in the mood for a cup that can be held with ease, sure. I hadn’t realised I had taken for granted that handles had been invented. Surely I’m not the only one? Who makes these apparantly ‘trendy’ cultural rules? I laugh inside and outside. I cannot suppress the chortle! It’s too much. Is this the work of a committee of avocado munching snowflakes? Someone or something has bought this idea 🤔 I was then overwhelmed with gratitude for humankind having evolved from using sharpened flint and other stones to now be able to use metals for cutlery and not solely for machines! Oh, and then there’s the invention of the wheel! So many things have benefited from that!…
