Poem: Tasty

It looks delicious

To me it looks scrummy

I’m sure that after just one bite

I’ll find it quite DELUMMY!

Review: Tasty

Wow! What visual delight has the poet cast their eyes upon here?

It’s food of the ‘glorious food’ kind by the sounds of it. Whatever it is specifically, is not apparent, but it sounds visually appealing that’s for sure. The poet is having a moment of ‘Oooh, and I want it!’ Enticed and imagining how delightful the next step of having a bit more of it would be.

It could be something sweet or something savoury? It sounds new, close by and within reach? I doubt it’s anywhere near the mini army of yellow stickers declaring a good price, and other labels with suggestions of consuming the item before it implodes and goes ‘on the turn’ How kind and considerate eh? I doubt the food item is within a regular supermarket environment. Supermarkets never, from my experience, induce feelings of interminable devotion. For all the ‘loyalty, pledging allegiance points’ in the world, who in their right minds would want to hang around for longer than need be?! (or at all) For me, visiting the supermarket is ‘an in and out’ strategic swift motion. When ‘the shop’ is complete, some carry items cradled in arms without using bags, Why folk don’t use carrier bags is a mystery to me.

The poet appears to have carved out some time or has the ‘luxury of it’ to be able to indulge themselves in the food theatre of what’s on display to then comment highly.

It sounds like it could be a new experience at an outdoor market, a patisserie or a delicatessen perhaps? People admire good performance don’t they? The attractive spectacle of things, the comedy and drama that exist in everyday life. By just looking at the food item is enough to get the attention of the poet and wanting to have more.

But are looks everything? Yes, to be invited to it in the first place, to discover more and to go on to what could be next. Good looks need to be backed up however with substance to offer a sustained commitment exchange of delight and satisfaction. Oooh this could develop further and go beyond the initial visual infatuation?

Offering what’s easy on the eye must be displayed well, able to get to with ease, to look at and admire before making the next step of committing to taking more interest with a bite.

Sounds like something fancy in a window display. Attractive. It’s got my interest and I’m curious.

Excitement is demonstrated with the poet reaching the climactic pinnacle by inventing and shouting a new word that concludes the poem with ‘DELUMMY!’

That says it all to me!

I have enjoyed the poet’s moments of discovery, attraction and anticipation.

A  short, fun rhythmic poem making me, the reader, question the importance of first impressions. They do indeed count don’t they?

I’m sold. The thought of it is, as the title declares, “tasty”  yummy times!
