Poem: Start

Conversations and situations, still living in the past?

Start something new, no hesitations to live, to love and last.

Review: Start

Interesting start of ‘start’, yes. Is the poet speaking to themselves or is this an observation that the poet wishes to reach out with as others could identify?

It’s easy to get stuck with hearing or having the same conversations over and over again with the same people isn’t it? To some, it’s a comfort and to others it’s frustrating, annoying, irritating and a sign to step away from the conversation platform, if possible.  I think it’s potentially but not strictly, a generational thing. Most are set in their ways, and guess what reader, if not already, you will be too. Ask yourself, what are those ways? Have you become what you are because of certain triggers? Are you a grump or a delightful soul? Or a bit of both? Does your environment effect you and these ways of yours?  Are you a country or a city dweller? Is there a prolonged sense of what seems like ‘never ending’ external forces going on? Can you even see its effect on you? Is questioning the self, you see as a luxury or a waste of time? Ok, I’ll stop with the questions. It’s too much, I’m not here to interrogate, I’m just a curious soul who admits to being triggered by what I am met with on a regular basis. Do I ignore, absorb, dodge, or deflect it? That all depends on what it is and what I’m choosing, or I am able to do.

Living a retrospective life is discounting the ‘here & now’ and the future too, isn’t it?

Why is nostalgia, and the piggy backing on the nostalgia of others, seem to be the thing to do?

I yawn, as I grew up on the cusp of ‘trendy’ Nostalgia. It wasn’t that exciting but that’s how it’s being sold.  I will try not to roll my eyes to the heavens when I see yet another animal print pattern or leather wearing gestapo style long coat. Last time I checked, I was not living in a fascist jungle. That is one of the things I am set in my ways with, I don’t care for retrospective fashions being trendy today. Done and dusted thirty years ago, yes. Not ironic, not clever, just boring.

I now understand why some people are anti-tv and regular news broadcasts.

The poet is asking me if I’m still living in the past?

Yes and No. Memories from the past can be a comfort and a warm smile inducer, yes. It’s nice to indulge but not obsess with. The here and now holds equal, if not more value with looking ahead towards the future. No crystal ball is needed! Let go of it before it gets a grip and holds on to you!

I’m liking the advice of starting ‘something new without hesitating’.

The three L’s  of ‘to live, to love and last’ at the end of the poem offer support. I’m liking that.

The message I am getting here is to give something a go, try it, see how it feels, see how it goes. Give yourself a chance.

Concise, encouraging and wise words

Thank you poet for making me look introspectively, focusing on what is and isn’t important and what can and what cannot be changed.
