Snooze button

Poem: Snooze button

All the intentions

All the numbers

All the alarms

All the dreams

Review: Snooze button

Oh that ‘useful’ little impish button… that needs pushing or a voice activating ‘artificial intelligent’ command and not that of a standard ‘stupid’ human. Oh how we are, the human race. Continuously evolving supersonically within a supposedly desirable and a synthetic ‘natural selection’ (Wifi permitting)

Would the humble snooze button be seen as a friend or a foe?

It’s giving you more of what you’re about to leave behind isn’t it? and that would be a reminder of the much-loved soothing and re-energising sleep that all of us achieve don’t we?… aww (insert memory of emoticon… as I have to pay for a hug or a smiley face on a pay monthly basis) Sleep and slumber mode; a state of bliss and ultimate contentment, void of any stress and worry…Is that a true statement or an actual dream that the snooze button has interrupted?

Good idea, the button? Press it the once, it’s kind, it’s forgiving?  It all depends how one’s attitude is towards it.

It’s interesting to know that the poet lists their ‘intentions’ for the day ahead. It’s top of the list.

The snooze button unfortunately does not halt time.

Wouldn’t we all be better off with the ‘tough love’ foghorn sound of one alarm only and adhering to that instead? Maybe from the other side of the room? You’re then forced to get up. and face the day… Result. No? Or absolutely not, no!

It’s either that or investing in a live pet cockerel and keeping it on the bedside table? (next to the tissue box, for its tears and not yours)

Does the snooze button invite one into a thinking or ‘a doing’ overdrive? Would some try to out do it, leap out of bed after the first push of it and then feel smug as they are in mid flow in doing the first task on their ‘to do list’? A feel-good factor for the day ahead maybe? Hmm?

Option 2, press it again and again and keep going like that whilst in bed for half an hour?

It all depends in general how one’s attitude is towards beds and alarms. But that’s another story altogether for another time that I’d need to set an alarm to be reminded of it.

The “numbers and alarms” in the poem suggest to me that there are many of them and I’d ask, would they all be snoozed too? Already that makes me feel stressed on the poet’s behalf.

Intending to do something is all well and good but what about the actioning of those things to get out of dream mode for good, and turn thoughts into reality?

The snowflake molly-coddley snooze button could therefore become obsolete with satisfaction having been achieved?

Satisfaction with achievements of the minor daily triumphs?

Reflect on those perhaps but not in ‘snooze mode’ or you’re back at the start and the cockerel’s patience having long waned!

Reflect also on recent days that have passed? You’re still here are you not? That should put you in ‘sleep’ mode. A multitude of ‘buttons’ with the pushing, tapping, voice command or grunting at them on a choice of devices tend to be a hinderance, a nuisance and the talk of them overegged! The Nuclear button is just one example. Oh, how I yawn.

Sweet dreams – boom!
