Run away with me!
Poem: Run away with me!
Such a thrill!
Seeing the beautiful view from way up the hill,
You bought me a drink and had had a deep think.
You said gleefully
That it’s meant to be!
No need to look up at the stars
or to check your horoscope
Run away with me
let us be happy
kiss and elope!
Review:
Run away with me
The title of the poem has already caught my attention. There’s a sense of excitement and romance. A sudden pleasing vista of beauty the poet is met with from way up high. On a date it sounds like it is to me. I’m intrigued. Where was the poet? There’s no description that’s to be found from being up this hill or of its beauty or location. I’m resorting to my own memory bank of hills, cliffs and mountains. Over the years I’ve been up and down one or two and have had a few beverages. Yes, being up high can be awe inspiring, magnificent and a calming experience. It sounds like there’s a pub up this hill where the drinks have been bought and it also sounds like ‘Doctor destiny has distributed a dose of ‘what’s meant to be’. Assumptive perhaps? Who has decided that the moment is meant to be? It sure is a bold statement.
Wow, I’m then met with an exciting demand that has struck the poet!
The poet’s love interest had been doing a spot of thinking and wants to marry the poet! Congrats! Woo Hoo is what I say to you! I love good, happy news!
Hang on! Before I get too carried away with the joy of it, I need to question a few things here.
Why run away? and what are you running away from?
Disapproval from others?
Due to religion/s?
Race?
Sexuality?
Ageism?
Status?
Or a big wedding is just too costly and they just want to officially become a union and be married. It’s no body’s business. (ooh another story for another time)
I’m not going to state whether I’m married or not. It’s not your business and it’s not my business to seek any kind of approval regarding my marital status, kind reader. That thing called ‘love’ is what’s important.
It’s what the ‘world needs now’ (As quite a few songs are sung about).
I’d like to add ‘get over it and get on with it’ like a ‘weather report that I’ve read from a poet recently.
I can’t help but smile with how the poem concludes.
Simply put with three simple words to be ‘happy’ ‘kiss’ and ‘elope’
No faffing about with that, it’s straight to the point! Those desires are delightful and I continue to smile.
The main thing is that the couple are happy, and they’ll commit to each other, in their own way, on their own terms.
I wish them well. Loving the rhyming of horoscope with elope.
A fun little read
