One moment at a time
Poem: One moment at a time
The last kiss before the next
Time said you had to go
And I had to go too
A microscopic moment of passion was interrupted
As I had to… use the loo!
Bye-bye
Review: One moment at a time
There’s a kiss.
In the first line the poet sounds assured that there will be another kiss. It sounds to me that this has happened before, and a pattern has been established between the two people. What sort of a kiss is it I wonder? Dear friends? Dear family members? They know each other don’t they?
Could they be lovers?
Life partners?
They had to separate as they were both pushed for time. ‘Love is brief and time a thief’ (as Billie Holiday sings it)
Ah haaa! I get the answer to my question.
The two people must be a couple, right? They were beginning to share a passionate kiss BUT hang on! A microscopic one? How can passion ever behave in that way? I have the answer to that one too, IT DOESN’T Passion is intense! When shared sparks fly and are noticeable.
A passionate kiss can never be microscopic. This says ‘tiny’ to me and not a large lingering gesture of demonstrative ’get a room’ intimacy. Time was certainly dictating here!
It throws up many more questions.
What signals are the couple giving out?
“Have they, you know, nudge nudge, wink wink, Are they? Could they be?”
Are they a comfortably, well established, confident ‘life’ couple?
Well, I don’t have the time nor the inclination to do any lingering of my own over any of these questions as the poet was needing to use the toilet before heading off with saying a farewell.
I’m sure many can relate to ‘passionate moments or general moments in life being interrupted by outside forces such as alarms, doorbells, pets, children, noises outside and inside.
The poem takes me, the reader, on a fun little journey of two people. I question my own perceptions and biases. I never get to know exactly what the relationship between the two people within the poem is about and I think that is the point of the poem. I love the pace, rhyming and mystery within this short poem. An amusing little read.
