Just a little bit
Poem: Just a little bit
They are either too busy to give a s&!t
Too tired to give a s&!t
Too sick to give a s&!t
Too far away to give a s&!t
Distance is a bummer isn’t it?
To put it simply, they do not want to give a s&!t
That’s a whole lot of s&!t isn’t it?
Being dead or dying isn’t good either is it?
Be understanding, well, just a little bit
Review: Just a little bit
Whoa whoa, whoa
The poet sounds extremely annoyed here, and has got my attention. The poem lists the reasons as to why folk do not ‘appear’ to care, but is it justified? Well, yes. From what I see and have seen, people are busy, busy, busy with one thing or another. If one lives within a city, London, (my city) for example, it has always been thus has it not?. Being tired, yes. Sick, yes (from being tired no doubt) Some simply don’t want to care anymore or have drifted. Circumstances change. Nothing ever stays the same even though at a particular time, for good or for ill, it felt like it would last forever. There are other priorities that pop up either planned or unexpected and folk have needed to get on and deal with it, and yes, before you know it, time does indeed fly! Haven’t ‘they’ aged?, you may think to yourself when you see them at the rise of that next blue moon! Guess what? you have aged too!
I can see clearly within the poem that it’s about the missing of others and not being thought of. It is important to connect even if it’s to say a quick hello, or have a deeper and longer acknowledgment for a chat and a cuppa. Either way it needs to be a sincere action from the head, the heart or both. Nothing robotic, with a ‘I suppose I have to’ label attached to the gesture. Connection on whatever level is key with authenticity and integrity built into the sentiment.
Being ‘dead or dying’ is a great line in the poem. It gets the reader to ‘Wake Up’
Don’t wait for it to be too late to remain in touch with people. Make that link. Reconnect.
The poet is choosing to understand the various circumstances of separation and choosing not to analyse each one thoroughly. What a faff and waste of time, if they were to do just that eh? Being understanding benefits all concerned including the poet. It’s good advice and ‘Just a little bit’ of it is more than enough.
