Grow

Poem: Grow

Born

Live

Die

With lots of stuff in between

Some will speak truths

And others will lie

Moments will bring joy and sorrow

Will there always be a bright and wholesome looking tomorrow?

Give it a try,

Sing along to it all with your own lullaby.

Review: Grow

‘Grow’ sounds like an instruction to me.

I’m glad the title isn’t something like “That’s how it is, make of it what you will and good luck”

A bit too blunt and long winded a suggestion perhaps?

The poet has an idea of what living is all about in very brief terms at the start of the poem.

Succinct and very ‘matter of fact.’ Not romantic in the slightest. Maybe that is down to the reader to think of a bit of romance and whatever other ‘stuff’ they can reflect on or is yearning for?

I’m inclined to do an audit of my own life and see where and how I can top up on the good stuff, if I see that there is an imbalance? Fill those gaps, yes. Correct the asymmetrical way of living. Thank you poet, you’ve made me think in this way.

Contrasts feature strongly with ‘truths’ ‘lies’

‘Joy and Sorrow”

I suppose one cannot truly appreciate the good times if a dose of the bad times has not been experienced?

A wholesome looking tomorrow?

Thoroughly unpacking that question has led me to feel optimistic.

Wholesomeness? We’re not there yet but if there is a spark of an idea or a plan to improve anything that occurred that had a bit of an ‘iffy’ or unresolved nature but overall, you’ve been alright over the last seven days then I would say that you’re winning.

The reader cannot achieve this all alone. All of us need encouragement and support and to support and encourage others.

Who or what is it that helps? The reader would know this and would feel this.

I like how the poem encourages the reader to think and choose what kind of soothing sound they listen to, to help moments along throughout the day. I like the two rhyming lines concluding the poem.

“Give it a try, sing along to it all with your own lullaby.”

I think I’ll do just that in order to grow.
