Good specs in Camden
Poem:Good specs in Camden
I look around your eyes
I don’t look into them
It’s your glasses that I’ve fallen in love with
Chunky
Fancy
Bold
Changing colours when it’s cold
Just like you
Review:Good specs in Camden
Intriguing and captivating. I had to look twice when I first read the title of the poem.
Everyone, poet or not, knows what the word ‘Specs’ rhymes with don’t they? It’s obvious isn’t it?
It’s Flex, Perplex, Ex, Kecks, (If one is from somewhere ooop North!) Vex, circumflex, and latex. Surely that’s what springs to mind to most isn’t it? When one reads the words “Good Specs?” Hmm? I’ll leave it there kind reader. I don’t wish to patronise you but I know what you’re thinking… I’ll internalise my wink and I’ll keep a straight face.
Camden. Why Camden? What’s the big deal? Surely, it’s just like any other area in North London? People moving, traffic, shops etc and a bit quiet perhaps? Oh,how I’m laughing hard at that!
Well, what can I say? NO, it’s definitely not quiet.
I do know of Camden, yes. It’s described as ‘Bohemian’ The free spirited and non-conformists are there.
It is indeed a positively thriving area like no other in London. Energetic. It attracts creative folk; musicians, artists. poets, performers. The people that feed our souls. Great minds eh? Great minds.
The pubs, music venues and the market are cool. Although the commercial stuff is found everywhere in London, unique things can be discovered in Camden. Yes, I’m thinking of the poem and the ‘Good Specs’; the attractive unique looking glasses. I can believe a good pair were found in Camden. I would happily do the same and visit Camden with an idea in mind to buy something that I needed and ‘speaks to me’ No I’ve not been puffing away on any of the ‘funny fags’. A funny fag cloud is the sort of thing one would encounter when strolling down Camden anyway. Cannot be avoided. Adjust your walking pace accordingly!
Changing colours when it’s cold? Chameleon-esque? What could the poet mean by this? The poet knows the person by the sounds of it.
I think it sounds exciting. Colour is celebrated and is introduced to warm and liven things up. That is pretty much a good way to describe Camden and its people. It’s colourful, interesting and diverse. A place that excites all the senses.
