Flirt
Poem:Flirt
I know you do
I can tell by the way you keep looking away from me, you feel the same
It’s how you raise your gaze above your friendly and witty comments when you speak
I know you do
It’s how you raise your voice to attract attention of your arrival
I know you do
Seeing if your words land on my ears
and trigger a reaction,
the sweet spot of my smile
It works
I do smile with my eyes when I look directly into yours
I know you do…Flirt
Review: Flirt
Language sure is powerful. A great communication tool and a way to connect us all and get through life. Knowing more than one language offers more opportunities to expand with experiences and have more conversations and to connect. BUT we all do know more than one language, the non- verbal stuff and those are the universal communication gestures of body language.
Speaking directly and confidently with the poem’s title ‘Flirt’, the poet is confident and goes straight in with analysing the person who is doing the flirting. The poet is certain of it with the first line of ‘I know you do’
To me, the line saying “Looking away from me, you feel the same” I find humorous and I laugh. If someone keeps looking away, they are not interested are they? Perhaps the poet is a bit on the self-deluded side of things?
Hang on though! Is there more being masked here?
“You feel the same”
What is this “the same?” An attraction of some sort? A curiosity of some kind?
Is it a confession from the poet? A subtle admission of having stronger feelings that go beyond feelings of friendliness and a friendship?
At this stage I’d say yes or no to that. It’s not that clear, it could be either.
The poet is certain that he or she is being flirted with. I want to find out more and I do just that by reading more of the poem.
The poet is tuned into ‘observing mode’ with noticing the raising of the gaze and the raising of the voice from the person who is flirting. Seeing if those words being spoken are enough to trigger a desired reaction from the poet. It works, bingo! A smile is achieved by the flirter, happy days.
But the poet goes on to say they’ve taken the connection to another level and looks directly into the eyes of the person who is doing the flirting.
This suggests to me that they are able to get physically closer to this other person to be able to do this. The poet’s feelings run slighter deeper (but not by much) than the other who is the ‘flirt’. I think they both like the fun and light connection and are both curious but know their boundries
They could of course just be friendly, curious, interesting and interested people They could well be like that with everyone that they meet? They like to talk. Some do.
The poem has hit my sweet spot. A smile inducing read.
