Eggs and Bridges… think about it
Poem: Eggs and Bridges… think about it
Don’t burn your eggs or put all your bridges in one basket… think about it
Set in ways, are they not?
Not likely to change?
You know in your head and heart the answer to that.
Delighted, are you?
Disillusioned, are you?
Disappointed, are you?
Harmless are they?
Think about it.
Charms and smiles can only go so far until met with an impasse.
Think about it.
Review: Eggs… think about it
Whoa! Aren’t we feeling philosophical this morning? It’s Monday, It’s only the first day of the week. Does a Monday need to be met with such deep questioning?
Leave off, catch your breath!
What’s happened?
Something must have really got your goat, or aggravated your ram oh poet!
Ok… I’ll leave the hoofed creature metaphors out of it, lest that adds to your stress. A stressed poet is what I am detecting here! I am worried about you!
The opening line of eggs and bridges, leaves cause for concern.
It’s bringing notice to a situation that’s occurring and needs attention!
Do not ignore this message as it’s not the norm for eggs to burn nor for bridges to be in baskets.
There, I chortled a bit at the start but you’ve got my attention.
I will read more and I am listening. I do care.
It’s a clever way of getting me to think about how those words were constructed originally with the two phrases of eggs and bridge meanings.
“Eggs in baskets” and the “burning of bridges”
Now, Doesn’t that sound better?
(Phew, I feel better already)
Sounds to me as though the poet is offering advice with a warning.
Has the poet put all their efforts and resources into one thing, any one thing? A ‘one trick pony’ have they become?
Have they failed and have they been left with no alternative? Oh dear…hmm, i think? Hmm some more…
Have they had any regrets of not being able to go back to a place because it is impossible to do just that, to return.
(Bridges you see, bridges)
These are potentially times of yikes, yes.
Sounds as though it is people that are at the centre of causing this ‘stress’
Being set in ways isn’t a bad thing if those ways are from those who regularly have lovely ways.
The poet is asking me to go into questioning mode,
Here’s my philosophical response.
Delighted, am I?
Yes and no.
Yes, when I think of the good stuff.
No, when I think of the bad stuff
Disillusioned, am I or was I ?
Yes, I was as I had believed in what I had been sold. I bought into an idea…
BUT, haven’t all fallen into a trap of an idea, in one way or another? Some may realise it and then do something about it. Others don’t.
Disappointed, am I?
Yes and no
I’ll stop here as this is not a therapy session but I do appreciate the concern and care offered by the poet.
Thanks mate, Can I call you mate?
Advice I’m getting here is to always have a plan b and while you’re at it, always have at least a few of them rolled up your sleeve, as nothing is guaranteed, that’s for sure, not even the integrity of sleeves!
Think about that eh!
Ok, I’ll stop here before I begin to spiral into an ‘end of the world mode’
The poet is confident in knowing that the reader has the answer in their head and their hearts. I don’t mean to tread on your toe’s poet, but I would offer something extra here.
One could add to the
‘Think about it’, a verse of
‘Sleep on it and if there’s a continued negative pattern emerging and not a ‘one off’, then something needs to change.’
A bit too wordy perhaps and it doesn’t quite roll off the tongue with ease
Harmless are they?, I’m being asked.
Aren’t all harmless at a distance and with set boundaries of usual timetables ticking by and physical environments? That’s what separates. The dark, even time zones and selective memory can help out here!
With all that in mind, of course they’re harmless, whoever they are that is? Borderline wonderful eh? Hmm?
Charms and smiles yes, they are prone to having an expiry date. They are only truly enchanting when done with a pure heart; the smile from a baby or a child and rarely by an enthused adult.
My conclusion?
One person’s hero is another person’s monster.
(Told you I’d be getting all philosophical here!)
Yes, it is not good to put all eggs in one basket. Eggs are precious.
But it is good to burn certain bridges and move on.
It’s Tuesday now, I’ve slept on it and guess what? – I feel the same. I did think about it as the poet suggested. Ways are ways and they are set aren’t they? Time, and the passing it is the arena that has been created for all the action to have taken place. It would take a bolt from the blue or another miracle of sorts to take place for ‘ways ‘ to change. I know what my head and heart are saying. Thank you poet , I have thought about it quite a fair bit. I fancy an omelette for dinner now. Yummy times!
