Carpe Diem in Limbo

Poem: Carpe Diem in Limbo

Before tomorrow and at the
very tail end of yesterday

I promise to commit to it…

Review: Carpe Diem in Limbo

The title has caught my attention!

Yes, it is before the next day and the previous day. It is here, go on, do it! Seize the day!

The very nature of ‘Carpe Diem’, seizing the day, is that it should not be in a state of limbo! I get the impression that the poet hasn’t really grasped its meaning and is holding on to the memory of the previous day for as long as possible. Let it go poet! Yesterday has been and gone. The poet is not living in the moment, are they? Promising to commit to it, when? They are leaving the last line of the poem wide open to interpretation. It’s left hanging and unsaid with the three dots of the ellipsis. Let me make it easier for you poet. DO IT NOW. Hesitating on a promise of this nature is not the done thing. It makes you look like an indecisive…  Anyway, I’ll leave it there (for now)

This poem has provoked me into thinking how important and precious life is and how time is spent living it. Reflecting on yesterday, thinking of tomorrow but living in the here and now is where you are, all be it with the much needed buffers of the past and the future.
