Barking up the wrong tree
Poem: Barking up the wrong tree
Teach a dog old tricks
Teach an old dog new tricks
Or a new dog, a puppy, old tricks?
Teach the dogs
Teach the tricks…
You don’t know any dogs
You don’t know any tricks
Aren’t you allergic to furry things?
Now that’s a bit tricky
Review: Barking up the wrong tree
Keen keen keen! Dogs any dogs! A call to all the dogs!
A strong enthusiasm and interest in dogs, not any breed, but dogs in general is what I’m getting here. The poet is passionate, loves dogs and wants to play. As I read on, I see that it is more the idea of being involved in the lives of dogs that the poet has fallen in love with.
Teaching dog’s sounds fun. Nice idea, right?
But there’s more to it than that. Being involved in a dog’s life is more than just play, it’s a lifestyle! I find it amusing how it doesn’t take that long for the poet to come to their senses and realise that it isn’t a good idea after all. They have an allergy! Ok, I know that there are various ‘oodle ‘woodle, no need to for sneezes anymore’, dog combos out there (another story for another time) but the poet knows their limitations on acquiring this fantasy and nips the idea in the bud.
I love the thinking process and the title. It’s fun. A good little monologue
Using words, ‘tricks’ many times throughout the poem and reaching the conclusion by using the word ‘tricky’ makes a pleasant connection and a satisfying read.
I hope the poet finds the right tree to bark up at.
