Air Jordan follows fashion
Poem: Air Jordan follows fashion
He flies through the air with his amazing bouncy shoes as
he delights in the fashion parade spectacle down below
It’s so good to be in the know of what the style is
A feast for the eyes
A multi coloured bang and a whizz
There’s gleaming white teeth that accompanies each smile
How very wow!
How very showbiz!
It’s trendy to look like a grandma in a tabard
With chunky brown shoes and frills
It’s trendy to look like a grandpa in a flat cap
With slip-on beige espadrilles
It’s trendy to…
Wear a rainbow in your hair
Wear a ribbon of all colours
Which one is the best good cause?
Chant 1, 2, 3 as you bend at the knee
To marry, live with or without me?
Or… to protest?
Do what you think is for the best
Conforming to all passing fancies is to know what you like and what you detest
Review: Air Jordan follows fashion
The basketball playing icon figure that is the fashion ‘man brand’
He has almost super hero qualities has he not?
He can fly through the air can he not?
He has the talent
He has the fans
He has… a good agent
I am seeing this ‘Jumpman’ man brand logo everywhere I go. Walking down London roads, on public transport and in hospitals. Young-ish people (I raise an eyebrow), young people; teenagers and toddlers. On bags, T-shirts and the varied multi coloured versions of the original shoe from the 1980’s. Michael Jordan the man is a symbol, a logo. A logo of recognisable distinction with the shape of his body, his stature ubiquitous. Who else has done that? Who else is culturally recognised globally because of the stance and shape of the position of their body? Hmm?
By the looks of it his agent has elevated him (as if he needs it) to global heights on par to that of another man that symbolises a lot to many people and that’s …Jesus Christ! A bold statement maybe? Just have a bit of a ponder at this… It’s an ambitious goal to attempt to achieve as for those who believe, Jesus Christ rose from the dead and ascended into heaven for a quite a considerable length of time (that thing called ‘eternity’) therefore reaching immortality status.
I don’t think the ‘Air Man’ will reach quite the same level. Those representing him are giving it a good go though without there being any death involved. They’ve skipped that bit and have gone straight down the “resurrecting from the 1990’s” route instead. (maybe Bill Clinton or Jerry Springer might pop up?) Let’s call it a ‘retro restoration’
Michael Jordan is not immortal but a man who is recognisable, revered yes, and who is retired, yes retired. The man doesn’t play the game anymore. The man who is aging gracefully like the rest of us are we not, day by day? (grey hairs and all that? What grey hairs? Zap zap zap them away of course – another story for another day)
He was at his peak during the late 1980’s
Flying on a retro wave for those who were young and bouncy, or thought they were back then.
I’m seeing a new wave of sheep have been called to follow a flock and piggy back on retro loving parents who potentially have star wars memorabilia and a faded “Nirvana” t-shirt tucked away in a drawer next to some rosary beads and half a packet of out of date halls soothers.
But no doubt his name carries weight and continues to attract brand loyalty.
He hasn’t traded in his basketball for a zimmerframe nor is he too busy with his retirement playing golf.
He’s clearly preparing for his Zimmer frame days by accumulating as many dollars as possible.
A very clever man with his bouncy yet sturdy retirement plan. How high can he go?
But he is a good guy and he has used his name and wealth to support children’s health charities for more than thirty years. That is saying a huge ongoing thanks and reaching the ultimate high, no?
In the poem he takes a minute to pause and observe as he’s flying through the air. This flying way of life for him is something he can’t just stop. Amid his latest jumping spree he notices the colourful fashion parade below.
Undoubtably he would recognise his own brand being worn by the foot stepping fashionistas and hopes, like most things that are passing fancies, that his own brand isn’t one of them.
